Why Is Soy Wax Better? Soy Candles Last Longer

Brooklyn Candle Studio wants to ensure that you're only burning the best of the best in your home. We all know the difference the perfect candle can make in a space.

It can elevate it from an everyday lounging area to a cozy and sweet-aired safe space. While we may be biased, we think one of the best ways to put your flair to a room is by burning a scent that hits home for you.

It’s not just us, either; neuroscientists believe that your sense of smell could have a more profound correlation to memories than your sense of sight. We've all taken a whiff of an evergreen candle and have been instantly transported to Christmas morning 20 years ago, where you're tearing through wrapping paper around the tree.

There are different types of waxes, though, and it’s important to know the differences between them. Let’s talk about soy wax candles to start.

What Are Soy Wax Candles?

Before jumping into why you should opt for soy wax candles over anything else, we first want to explain what exactly soy wax is.

Soy wax is derived from the oil of soybeans. Our candles are made from the wax of soybeans that are grown right here in the United States. The oil is extracted after the beans are cleaned, cracked, and de-hulled. After they are rolled into flakes, the oil is extracted and hydrogenated.

After the oil is adequately extracted and is ready for all of the vibrant and unique scents to be added, it is shipped to Brooklyn to our candle-making workshop. From there the wax is melted down and transformed into wonderfully-smelling hand-poured candles.

What Are the Benefits?

Using soy wax over any alternatives has its benefits. Here are five of them:

  1. Soy wax is completely renewable and 100% sustainable
  2. Soy wax candles will burn slower and cleaner
  3. They are eco-friendly
  4. American Grown
  5. Carbon neutral

We pride ourselves on the sustainability of products and that they are carbon neutral and eco-friendly. We believe that everyone has a way to help our planet, which is our way of showing we care.

Why Is Soy Wax Better?

A standard wax used for candles is a wax called paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a solid colorless wax that is made from saturated hydrocarbons. While paraffin wax is commonly used to make crayons or candles, that doesn't mean it's the best option. Paraffin wax burns much quicker than soy wax and will often burn unevenly.

Here are some reasons why soy wax is better.

Burns Cleaner

If you've ever burnt a paraffin wax candle, then we're sure you've noticed black soot that gathers around the rim, the walls, and other surfaces around the candle.

Yes, soybean wax candles may collect some black soot (which can be due to wicks not being trimmed before each burn). However, it will be much less than a paraffin wax candle. Not to mention, they're non-toxic, so no toxins will be released into your home while you're burning them.

The best part of soy candles is that their scent is disbursed more evenly and slower. This ensures the scent will always be distributed evenly throughout a room and make sure it's not too strong at first.

Sometimes candles can be a little too much, especially if you're sensitive to smells. Soybean wax candles are of higher quality, so you shouldn't run into this issue.

Lasts Longer

When you find a scent you really love, you want to burn it all the time. It can get frustrating when you have to continuously replace your favorite scented candle—not to mention pricey.

Soybean wax candles last longer than paraffin candles because of the cooler burning temperature of the soybean wax. Yes, initially, you may spend more on a soybean wax candle, but the longer-lasting candle will save you money in the long run as you will have to replace them less often.

When you find a scent you really love, you want to burn it in every room in your house, so it only makes sense that you'll buy a candle that will last longer. We've all been there; you finally find a candle that is just right for you and everyone in your home, and it's burnt down to the wick before the workweek is through.

More Potent Scent

Considering soy wax candles are scented with bespoke fragrance oils (a blend of synthetic and natural ingredients), the scent is much better and more potent than your average candle. The scent of the oils and soy wax work well together. The scent is released at an even pace and won't make the scent too strong for the area you're burning it in.

Candle Tips and Tricks

It's no secret that there are ways you can preserve your candles and help them burn more evenly. We know all there is to know about candles, so we wanted to include some of our favorite hacks with you!

  1. Don't burn a new candle for only a few minutes: When you buy a new candle, you should burn it for three to four hours for the first burn. You want a puddle of wax to cover the entire surface before blowing it out.
  1. Trim the wick: Trimming your wick when you first get it is crucial. Still, it's also good to continuously trim it throughout the burn process. You should trim it when you see it's become too long or uneven. Your wick should be around one-fourth-inch high.
  1. Keep candles clean: You want to keep your candle free of debris. You never want to leave used matches or pieces of the trimmed wick in the candle.

In Conclusion

Candles are a joy and can be an instant mood changer. Scents are very feel-good; they can trigger the best memories and feelings. We love the thought of our candles bringing you back to a fun and loving memory.

Buying soybean wax candles comes with tons of benefits, and the smell is always so amazing!
