Reed Diffusers: Uses and Why We Love Them
Reed diffusers are a great way to get your home filled with your favorite scent. They're very convenient as they don't require an open flame or power outlet. You can use these anytime, anywhere. However, we do have a few tips and tricks on how you can get the best results possible.
If you've never heard of reed diffusers, that's totally fine. We're here to give you all the information you need to know before purchasing your own.
What Exactly Are Reed Diffusers
A reed diffuser has three components including a glass jar, five to seven wooden sticks, and essential oil or liquid fragrance.
The process in which they're made is quite simple. The liquid fragrance is poured into the glass jar, and the wooden sticks (reeds) are placed inside the liquid. You want the stick to extend out of the jar at least a few inches, but the length of the reeds is often dependent on the style and size of the jar.
For optimal aesthetics, our reeds sit in a clear and elegant glass jar. The reeds are tall, but they give off a minimalist and classy look. Reed diffusers are great because they double as a cute home decor item, as well as a way to add an extra sweet scent to your home.
How To Use Them
If you purchase a reed diffuser that requires some assembly, then it's important you know the correct way to assemble them.
When you first open your reed diffuser, you will want to separate all the pieces. You'll then pour a few ounces of the fragrance into the jar and neatly place your reed sticks into the oil. The reed sticks should fall naturally around the glass, but feel free to move them around to your desired style.
It's important to make sure your oil is closed tight to preserve the fragrance for future uses. It's a good idea to store your oil in a dry place so you can best preserve the integrity of the oil.
Should You Flip the Reeds?
Whenever you want an extra burst of scent, you can flip the reeds; however, every time you flip the reeds, it speeds up the oil's evaporation process.
Where Should You Place It?
You want to set up your diffuser where it is out of reach of children, pets, or anything that can cause it to spill. If your diffuser tips over, that can lead to quite a mess; even though it'll smell great, it's definitely something you want to avoid.
Since reed diffusers are seen as a cute decoration, we always suggest you set it up where your guests or fellow housemates can see it (and smell it). Setting aside a special area on a side table or countertop is always a great idea.
The key is to match it to your room size. If it's a very large room, you'll want a larger diffuser. This way, the scent is disbursed adequately throughout the room.
It wouldn't hurt to place it on top of a small cloth of some sort; this way, if any oils drip off of the reeds, it won't stain or damage your furniture.
When Do You Replace the Oil?
When it comes to reed diffuser upkeep, it's as easy as it can get. All you have to do is refill the oil after it all evaporates.
Be sure to clean the jar out with warm water and soap, and make sure it is completely dry prior to adding in more oil. If the jar isn't dry, the excess water droplets can repel the oil. We suggest putting the jar upside down on a drying rack to ensure it's 100% dry.
Our Favorite Ways To Use Reed Diffusers
When it comes to using a diffuser, there are different places in your home you can put them; here are a few of our favorite places to put reed diffusers.
Bathroom: The bathroom is a great place to put a reed diffuser as they offer around-the-clock fragrance. Bathrooms aren't the best candidates for candle burning since they're a room that isn't occupied for more than a few minutes at a time, so they can be a fire hazard.
Bedroom: There is no better way to wake up in the morning than in a fresh-smelling room. Candles are great, but you can't leave them burning overnight, so you can't experience that first thing in the morning whiff of your favorite scent. Reed diffuser gives you a constant stream of smelly goodness without the open flame.
Why We Love Reed Diffusers
Brooklyn Candle Studio prides ourselves on our knowledge of all things scents and smells. Candles are great for almost any occasion, but it’s nice to have different options, too! We love our reed diffusers for a multitude of reasons, but here are a few of the main ones.
- Essential oils are good for your health: It's no secret that scented oils have tons of health benefits. Aromatherapy is a great (and natural) way to manage certain health issues like headaches and sleep issues.
- Multi-use: Another reason why we love reed diffusers is the cool and hip look having one can bring to any room. Who wouldn't want their favorite scents to double as a cute decor piece?
- Good scents trigger good thoughts: It's said that smells have a strong correlation with your emotions. We're firm believers that getting a whiff of your favorite scent can turn your whole mood around. We've all got home from a long day of work and headed straight to the tub to light a candle and relax.
Reed diffusers are great because you can walk into your home and be welcomed with warm hugs from your favorite fragrance.
Important Takeaways
Reed diffusers are great for everyday use. Unlike a room spray or mist, you can expect the smell to be constantly lingering. There is some upkeep, but it's very minimal and self-explanatory. Where you decide to put it in your home is entirely up to you. However, some places are better than others, especially if you have kids or pets.
The first step to transforming your house into a home is by ensuring it smells just the way you like it, and reed diffusers are a great way to do so. Yes, everyone loves candles, but they can’t burn 24/7, whereas you can leave your diffuser out all the time! If you weren't sure if reed diffusers were worth the investment, we hope now you have the urge to test them out.
