MEET OUR FEBRUARY FIRST FRIDAY FLAMES:
STACI JOHNSON X BROOKLYN CANDLE STUDIO
A limited edition collection featuring vibrant abstract art by Staci Johnson on sleek black vessels in three incredible scents: Brooklyn at Dusk, Island Orchard, and Upstate Cabin. A portion of all sales will be donated to the Inner City Ranger Project.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Staci Johnson is a Brooklyn-based artist whose brilliant use of shape, form, and saturated color create a lively sense of depth and motion. A lifelong artist, seeing Jackson Pollock’s work for the first time led her to fall in love with Abstract Expressionism, and incorporate many elements of the movement into her own work. She also counts Wangechi Mutu’s inspiring use of collage as a medium as a major influence on her style and process. Staci originally hails from Virginia and is the mother to an amazing 3-year-old boy.
“I love abstraction because the piece can be whatever the viewer needs it to be. That’s the beauty in it.”
ABOUT THE INNER CITY RANGER PROJECT
The Inner City Ranger Project is a summer camp program created in 2017 by Aurelia Casey, M.A., a sign language teacher at Staten Island Academy. The program's mission is to give Brooklyn youth access to urban environmental education. ICR is housed at the Brooklyn Center for the Arts (BCA), a Black-owned and operated arts center that provides art, dance, music, and after school enrichment.
